Program Structure

Q: What is the structure of the MASH Preceptorship?
A: The program consists of two parts:

  • Part I: Foundational Training, a 4-hour didactic session including lectures, case reviews, and guideline-based education on MASH diagnosis and management.

  • Part II: In-Clinic Training, participants observe or assist with patient care focused on metabolic liver disease.

 

Q: Who can apply for this preceptorship?
A: Applicants must be licensed NPs or PAs actively managing patients with gastroenterological or liver conditions.

 

Q: What is the overall process for this preceptorship?

Apply → Application Review/Notification → Part I → Claim Part I CME → Host APP will coordinate with you to arrange Part II: In-Clinic Training (including any required documentation prior to being onsite) → Claim Part II CME → Receive Certificate of Completion

Location Flexibility

Q: Can I participate in Part I and II in different locations?

A: No, both parts should be completed with the same host site. 

 

Q: Can Part I be completed virtually?

A: No, Part I must be completed in person and cannot be done virtually.

Travel and Support

Q: Is there a travel stipend available for the in-clinic portion?

A: Participants accepted to a host site requiring travel are responsible for all associated travel expenses; the MASH APP Preceptorship Program does not provide travel funding.

 

Q: Is lodging provided during the in-clinic training?

A: Lodging is not provided by the program; participants are responsible for their own accommodations if travel is required.

Q: Is there a fee for this activity?

A: There is no fee for this educational activity.

Q: Do I get a certificate upon completion?

A: Yes, successful completion of both Part I and II will grant a certificate of completion for a MASH preceptorship.

ACCREDITATION

Program Overview

This preceptorship, a collaboration between the Chronic Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF) and Gastroenterology & Hepatology Advanced Practice Providers (GHAPP), aims to elevate the expertise of Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) in managing Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH). The curriculum integrates foundational lectures and a two-day, in-clinic, hands-on workshop at a designated host site, specifically targeting community gastroenterology and hepatology practitioners

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of licensed Nurse Practitioners (NPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs) currently practicing in a setting where they manage patients with gastroenterological or liver conditions.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the growing burden of MASLD/MASH 

  • Classify fibrosis as the major driver of major adverse liver outcomes in MASLD/MASH and understand how to identify fibrosis

  • Analyze the use of approved therapies, and potential use of therapies in development, to treat MASH and MASH-related comorbidities

Accreditation:
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower and the Chronic Liver Disease Foundation (CLDF), and Gastroenterology & Hepatology Advanced Practice Providers (GHAPP). Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

 

Physician Associate Credit:
The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 16.5 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.


Nurse Credit:
The Annenberg Center for Health Sciences at Eisenhower designates this live activity for a maximum of 16.5 ANCC contact hours, which includes pharmacology hours.
